We have seen from Mathew 26.26, that the statement from Jesus, “This( bread) is My body”, is a metaphor by seven (7) factual counts of itemized proofs.

The primary sense of “to be” verbs; namely, “signifying,” “amounting to,” and “representing” is in its essence( abstraction) the notion “to mean,” but never the notion “to change.

Today I want to reinforce the idea that Christ’s statement, “This is My body”, has absolutely no reference to causing the bread to undergo a substantive change by being made to become His actual flesh.

Yet His body has everything to do with making possible real substantive changes to occur within individual believers, members of the so-called “mystical body of Christ,” also known as the “body of Christ;” namely, His True Church.

We will look at Scripture that speaks to Jews and to Gentiles on this matter.

Recall what Paul meant when he explained the accomplishments of the body and blood as represented in the Communion( fellowship) of Christ in the letter to the Church at Corinth (1 Cor. 10.16).

Comprehensive Translation: 1 Cor. 10.16

“Doesn’t the bread represent a quality of fellowship made possible by the body( death( atonement)) of Christ?”

Yes

“Doesn’t the cup( the wine) represent a quality of fellowship made possible by the blood( death( atonement)) of Christ?”

Yes

Let’s look at a quick survey of the New Testament on the subjects, the body and the blood of Christ, to see how the accomplishments made by them are affirmed in the contexts of the following Scriptures cited.

We begin with “the body of Christ” for this week.

The body of Christ:

NKJ Romans 7:4
Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another -- to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.

The body of Christ:

The general idea of his conclusion is obvious; that is, through the instrumental means of the body of Christ, something very significant is made to become possible within the believer; namely, a true change( a transformation, a transubstantiation) is made possible.

Romans 7:3a

Consequentially therefore, while the husband remains alive, an “adulteress one” she shall be called if( whenever) she might change herself to become [a wife] to another husband.

but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man.

But, if( whenever) the husband might die, she is a free person away from the law( the lordship of the husband), with the result that she has not made herself change to become to be an adulterous person, after having made herself to become [a wife] to another husband.

Romans 7.4
Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another -- to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.
Let’s seek the answer to this question: What relationship to the law were we formerly tied to that might possibly resemble a matrimonial relationship?

Comprehensive Translation: Romans 7.4

Thus in the same manner, brothers of me, also you+ (emphasis) after having been changed to become dead ones (with no connection) to the law [of the lordship law of the sacrificial system] by means of the body of the Christ, in order that you become changed for your own advantage, bound to lordship to another one, to the one raised out from among the dead ones, so that (of result) we should bear fruit to God. (Note: more inclusive here…)

Implication:

This whole array of truth statements point to a revelation about the intended purpose of the Lord’s Supper; namely, to the establishment of a memorial designed to mark the transition brought about in history by the events surrounding and including Christ’s cross work.

Implication:

From this moment onward, Christ expects the focal point of the Pascal meal to permanently shift away from its prior Old Testament( Old Covenant) emphasis upon the Pascal lamb to a New Testament( New Covenant) emphasis upon the Pascal Lamb of God.

Comprehensive Translation: Hebrews 10:10

By that will we are ones who have been changed made to become completely holy by means of the once-for-all-time sacrificial offering of the body of Jesus Christ.

Q: To whom is Peter speaking?
A: Most scholars are convinced that the recipients were primarily Gentiles.

Comprehensive Translation: 1 Peter 2:24

…who Himself bore the burden of the sins of us by the body of Him upon the cross, in order that we after having become changed to ones who have become dead [fig.] to the sins, we might be alive [fig.] to the righteousness( to what God requires), that by the wound( death) you+ were healed( restored) [fig.].

Comprehensive Details:

1 Peter 2:24

to ones who have become dead [fig.] to the sins,

dead [fig.] to

to not respond to,

to have no part in,

to be like dead as far as desiring sin

we might be alive [fig.]to the righteousness( to what God requires),

Note: Here is a very subtle point.

We are made to change to become dead to the sin.

After the change,

we are said to be alive to the righteousness

Become dead to be alive!

The idea is obvious, that by a change( a transformation, a transubstantiation) made possible through the instrumental means of the sacrifice( atoning death) of the body of Christ, very significant things are made to become possible.

Ironically, however, the death of the body of Christ is the means of producing life in the Body of Christ.

The amazing transubstantiation: God became flesh!

Just as physical bread sustains life and fellowship, it serves as a reminder that the physical body of Christ was the means of sustaining life and fellowship to the Body of Christ.

And the transubstantiation of God becoming flesh took place in order to produce a certain result, that we might be enabled to bear spiritual fruit as a part of the new vine and body of Christ to whom we have become holy bound in an abiding union with Christ.

Implications:

These are quality changes( transubstantiations) internal to the believer, advantages to the believer that the old plan( the sacrificial system) could never produce, even if Gentiles became Jews in order to take part in the old system of salvation.

Many will be surprised on the Day of Judgment when they discover that it was just as the Word of God says; only the righteousness of Christ is able to save you.All men are sinners and no one can save himself. God is just, so He must punish sin; but He is also merciful, moreover gracious, and offers His Son as the perfect sacrifice in order to purchase a place for you in heaven, which He offers to you as the free gift of eternal life.

Jesus is God Incarnate,

In order to pay the debt of our sins, He came from Heaven, having been sent by the Father, where He lived a life of perfect obedience to the Father even unto the shameful death upon the cross in order to pay the debt of your sins.This gift must be received by faith, believing that Jesus’ perfect life and Cross Work was His complete and necessary Atonement for your sins, in your behalf. Faith is a gift that comes by the Power of God the Holy Spirit working in a person’s innermost being. Only the power of God can open your heart to the willingness to have the void within it filled with the presence of Christ by His Spirit.The Holy Spirit has the authority and power to quicken your dead spirit, to make it come to life. Only the life of His Spirit’s quickening of your heart will allow the Gospel message of salvation to even make sense to you, to truly “hear” the message and give you the ability, as the Holy Spirit bears witness to Jesus, to recognize your need for forgiveness and restoration, and gain the desire of your heart to be favorably inclined to want to receive Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.If you have not done so before this moment, ask Jesus to forgive you your sins, tell Him you’ve stop trying to be your own savior, and ask Him to come into your life right now, and to give you eternal life. Then, in faith believing, thank Him for the gift that He is giving you, the one He paid for in full in your place, in Jesus’ name,
